What movie from the past do you you think would be a good remake?   (The concept of The Hitcher being remade prompted this thread)

Dude, what???  I've read Cryptonomicon twice, and I seriously don't picture Angelina Jolie when I think about Amy.

Not that I have any objection to Jolie.  I'm just sayin', it's not her.

If Jennifer Garner were younger I could buy her in the role.

Constance Zimmer would be good... she plays the hard-edged independent very well.  Although she's kinda short.

But if Cryptonomicon were made, I guarantee it would be dumbed down beyond recognition and populated with Teh_Hawt stars of today.  *sigh*  Randy would be played by the guy who plays Seth on The OC, Amy would be a singer (Simpson, et al), Avi would be Vin Diesel, and all the in-the-past subtext would be covered in about five minutes, so we'd totally lose out on Bobby Shaftoe and Goto Dengo.

It would work better as a 6- or 13-episode short series on FX, USA, Spike, TNT, or SciFi.

Jennifer Garner isn't exotic enough.  Amy is half Filipino- I see her with that "asian" look that Jolie has.  Also Jolie is curvy strong, whereas Garner is cut strong, does that make sense?

Ursus thinks that a younger Donal Logue would make a good Randy.  I'm inclined to agree, but with reservations.  That's not who I see when I see Randy.

And I totally agree- Vin Diesel would make a FABULOUS Avi.     You're so right.  Perhaps Seth Green as Andrew Loeb?

NO!  OH I just got it- Jon Favreau!  oooo!  He'd be a FANTASTIC Bobby Shaftoe.

Vin Diesel is black- maybe not so good for Bobby?

That was Bobby.  But he's DMS' father, and Amy's grandfather.  Down home country boy- pretty white. 

I think that Avi should be played by someone like Ben Kingsley, but not that old.
